In storytelling, asking the (right) questions can make all the difference. Sometimes the “right” questions are nowhere in sight. We just have to ask questions and see what all comes from them. This class will explore the techniques of exploratory writing, an incredibly important and helpful tool to prevent you from getting stuck or getting unstuck if you just happen to get that way. Read the description below:

Writing advice often chases certainty: decide the stakes, plan out story beats, do worldbuilding. People say “write what you know,” but writing is also about discovering that you don’t know as much as you thought you did.

This workshop will introduce a different way to think about writing: as a way to better understand the world, whether you’re working on a memoir, a mystery or speculative fiction. You will find out how to power your writing with questions, uncertainty, and the spirit of exploration. And you’ll learn how to get started when you don’t have all the answers.
