A snapshot in time, a slice of life, a punch in the gut, a glimmer of genius: the short story is a special work of art and efficient way to get to a reader’s consciousness. For many authors, the short story is a gateway drug to storytelling–the place where many start finding their voice and honing their craft before going on to longer pieces. This session will present a toolkit for how to get started on your own short stories: coming up with ideas, writing the first draft, and how to approach the all-important revision. Kyra will also provide a reading + listening list of her favorite short stories so you can have some mentor texts for your journey!
