We’re so excited to offer our first of what we hope will be a series of poetry classes! Welcome debut poet Jennifer Funk!
Class Description: “I like poems, but I just don’t get them” is the most common refrain received when I tell others I enjoy poems, that I even (gasp) write poems. This lecture-ish class will get us looking at basic poetic devices and aim to help those intimidated by the genre find a way to wade deeper in. We’ll do a close reading of a few poems and maybe (gasp) practice using some of the tools discussed. No preparation, previous experience, or poetic confidence required.
Jennifer Funk is a native Californian trying to prove her mettle in New England. A graduate of Bennington College and of Warren Wilson’s MFA Program for Writers, she has received support from the Bread Loaf’s Writers’ Conference as well as The Frost Place. Her poems have appeared in The Kenyon Review, Four Way Review, The Cimarron Review, Nashville Review, The Boiler, and elsewhere. Her debut collection of poetry, Fantasy of Loving the Fantasy, will be published by Bull City Press in June (cue squeal of delighted disbelief).
This class is online via Zoom. Participants will receive their Zoom link on June 2nd.
Class participants will have access to the class video for 3 months after the class ends.
