
Get up to speed quickly with a comprehensive overview of film and TV writing—from the practical nuts-and-bolts of crafting a script to the inner workings of Hollywood studios.
Participants will:
– Unlock the secrets of script formatting and learn how to get started writing immediately without any special software
– Discover the essential elements of an effective scene and the most memorable ways to introduce characters
– Understand how the business of screenwriting works and the various paths to getting a script produced
By the end of the class, you will have a solid foundation in screenwriting and be ready to start writing your own scripts. Participants may submit the first page of a script for critique from the instructor within 30 days of class (limited to the first 20 participants).
David Anaxagoras is best known as the creator and co-executive producer of Amazon Prime’s Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street, for which he received a WGA award nomination for Outstanding Writing. As a writer on the Netflix animated series Glitch Techs, he was recognized by the Muslim Public Affairs Council for advancing authentic portrayals of Muslims in television.
David is a graduate of UCLA’s MFA screenwriting program. For several years he has served as a judge for the Humanitas Prize for Children’s TV and has taught online screenwriting courses for the Loft Literary Center. His short fiction has appeared in Lightspeed and The Dread Machine, and his middle-grade novel is currently being shopped to publishers.
Prior to his writing career, David taught preschool and has a degree in child development. He lives in Texas where he reads, writes, and collects 80s vinyl. His website is davidanaxagoras.com.
